Gangarri Solar Project QLD
The Gangarri Solar Project is part of Shell’s ambition to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 or sooner. The project is expected to create up to 200 jobs during construction and help to support the transition to a low-carbon future.
The Gangarri Solar Project is a 120 megawatt solar energy project located in Woleebee, not far from the town of Wandoan in the Western Downs region of Queensland, Australia. It is being built on land owned by Shell’s QGC business and will generate solar power from approximately 330,000 photovoltaic panels that turn sunlight into electricity. This is enough energy to power 50,000 homes and reduce emissions by around 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
In addition to the photovoltaic panels, the project also features the installation of the Hydroprotector, a system that captures and treats all site rainwater runoff from the Transformer Sub-Station. The Large Oil Capacity of the Hydroprotector is designed to catch any oil spills that may occur from a transformer spill, thus preventing any oil from contaminating the surrounding environment.
